Does anybody have their pets taking any vitamins?
Posted by admin | Under Pet Vitamins Wednesday Dec 16, 2009I just put my Rottweiler on Shark Cartailage and some Calcium supplements. He’s 160 lbs. and loves to play! Think this will help with his joints?
Vitamins are not pills. You can’t overdose on them and they won’t hurt you.
He gets one of each a day.
Calcium in the right amount will be good for his bones, not necessarily his joints. As for joints: I’m not sure about shark cartilage, but glucosamine and chondroitin are so widely accepted as being effective that even people take them as supplements for arthritis!
Don’t get me wrong, I love Yahoo answers, but you should really double check with your vet or the package label for the right amounts. There IS such thing as vitamin toxicity:
Vitamin toxicity is a condition in which a person develops symptoms as side effects from taking massive doses of vitamins. Vitamins vary in the amounts that are required to cause toxicity and in the specific symptoms that result. Vitamin toxicity, which is also called hypervitaminosis or vitamin poisoning, is becoming more common in developed countries because of the popularity of vitamin supplements.

Did your vet suggest you give that to him? You should talk to your vet about it if not..

yea. did a vet say that he could take them. If not you should get an okay. If so then yeah they should work. Never heard of vitamins for pets before. lol

Mydog take them and she is strong

If you want to help his joints, you should be giving him glucosamine chondroitin with MSM – at least 500 mg daily as a preventative.

You should ask your vet, they only need vitamins if they are lacking them
And vitamins can hurt your body or an animals body is not designed to deal with high doses of anything, don’t be naive !

You’re right, for getting Vitamin and Calcium tablets for your dog you don’t need a vets permission, though they still shouldn’t be overdosed.
I think that Calcium and Cartailage will make you dog feel stronger, but dont overdose, 2 tablets a day is enough.

I add Allederm EZ Plus (sp?) to my dogs food once or twice a week. I own three Siberian Huskies and they wouldn’t normally eat dry food by itself so Allederm being a liquid vitamin supplement tempts them to eat it even without meat scraps and whatnot. hope this helps.
