if you are feeding a good quality dog food then your dog doesn't need any extras. listen to the breeder.they know more than the average pet owner. i had 5 Mastiffs and the breeder told me no puppy food,not even large breed puppy food and no vitamins just a good quality adult food. large breed dogs grow fast and additives and the extra protein causes them to grow to fast and can cause leg problems.

If you a feeding a quality puppy food for large breeds then there is no reason to supplement with calcium. Too much calcium can lead to problems. I would question your vet further. I worked for several different vets as a tech and am now in vet school an I have not seen any valid reason for doing this in a healthy pup.

What have you been feeding your dog that they need calcium suppliments?

If they do need calcium, do what you would for a person needing calcium: Probably far cheaper and far better tasteing… dog will think its a treat…

If your feeding your dog a high quality kibble then there is no need for supplements at all. Especially calcium!
Too much calcium can and has been linked to kidney stones and crystals in the dogs urine wjhich are always associated with UTI’s! Also bone issues later in life.
Your pup doesn’t need more calcium than the dog food has in it.

ADD: Your vet has given you some very questionalble advice. I personally would not give the dogs any of those supplements at all. The pup just doesn’t need them!

Do not give calcium supplements! That is terrible advice the vet gave you unless the puppy was diagnosed with some kind of disorder. Too much calcium will lead to bone problems!

First of WHY would you want to give your dog calcium supplements? Did you vet tell you they needed that? The only time I have ever heard o giving calcium supplements was when there was a female dog who was nursing and that was it. I would suggest giving Rottwielers Glucosimine supplements though just b/c they are a large breed and this supplement helps lubricate joints to help prevent hip dysplasia.

I would never give my giant breed puppies extra calicum. They will get enough in a good diet, and too much can lead to problems down the road.

So you are giving Pet-Cal AND Pet Tabs??? Good God, these puppies don’t stand a chance. Many vets really lack knowledge about large and giant breed nutrition. Search some good sites on the internet.

I have no idea why you are so into supplementation. A good food is all they need. Supplements are not necessary if things are otherwise normal.
