I've had this problem before.

1. Wet food is generally a better diet for older cats, unless your cat has a sensitive stomach which is when you want to stick to an anti-hairball dry food like I did. So for that question I'd say wet food for old cats, dry food for younger cats(1 year or older), Anti-Hairball dry food for cats with sensitive stomachs, and wet food for picky cats.(combination for picky cats with bad stomachs)

2. Once again this depends on your cats. I'm almost positive that they've got the same nutritional value but my cats have always liked Friskies better than Nine Lives. My friend's cats like Nine Lives. so it really depends on your cats.

3. Yes to both. My neighbor's granddaughter did this for about a week and couldn't figure out why her cats were constantly sick. Tuna and salmon are fine as long as you keep giving them normal cat food as well. If you don't do this and just give them any kind of fish you can bet they'll get sick.

4. This one is easy. My neighbor(she has 24 cats and a license to have them) and I both go with Fancy Feast. She also gives them Healthy Diet wet food too.(or something like that). So I'd go with Fancy Feast.(But all of them are pretty good so if you already have something else tha's fine too.)
References :
1. cats ARE carnivores & if they were in the wild, they'd be eating mice, birds, rabbits & such. however............pet food makers have been making both wet & dry foods for decades now & millions of animals have thrived on both. They have also thrived on premium brands & cheap brands alike.
2. MY preference is to give them cooked chicken(for reasons too long to go into here) or raw venison & or raw chicken livers, when I give them wet food. Ive had over 30 cats in over 30 yrs, my oldest being at least 18 before he died from complications of diabeties.
3. yes too much fish is not good for cats, the same reason its not good for humans. Its the mercury issue in some fish. Can you give your cat fish? yes in moderation.
4. what food does your cat prefer? Thats what you'll be using. keep in mind its also not good to continually change brands of foods, because you can upset tummies & then you get to deal with digestive isssues.
5. even vets use dry foods. some use premium brands, some use cheap brands.
6. just keep an open ear & eye for any pet food recalls & health issues that may occur with what ever you choose to feed. It has been over a year now since the major pet food recall which started with wet foods & also affected dry as well. Now the garbage that was in pet foods, is in human foods & baby formulas. Pay attention to any changes in your animals & you should have your furry friends for years to come. Please also remember to spay or neuter....there are still too many millions of pets who are put to sleep for lack of caring responsible homes.
References :
do not feed your cat MEOW MIX or cheap cat food like that. If you look on the back of the ingredients, one of the main ingredients is soy. Cats are carnivores. They eat meat, not soy. (unless your cats a vegetarian.. haha)

If you ask your vet about meow mix or any of those other foods.. she'll say the same

good luck
References :
We feed a combo of dry and canned. I have to use Royal Canin for Urinary since my boy got a UTI. But we also feed (in canned) - Max Cat lamb/chicken, Iams beef, Natural Balance venison/duck, Wellness chicken, Avoderm chicken.

I used to use the Friskies before the UTI - can't give that anymore or the UTI will come back.

So I would not recommend any of the cheaper canned foods you are thinking about. Go with BB and a few of the ones I'm feeding and you should not have any problems.

Amanda - IMO Science Diet and Iams dry are crap - just cause the vet sells it doesn't mean its healthy foods. I never ever recommend SD!
References :
Wow, it is really awesome that youre so concerned about what you should be feeding your pet. Honestly, I think you need to look at what your pets dietary needs are. For example, if they tend to get hairballs, you can buy food that specifically is for that, or if they are older and need different nutrients than younger ones. I dont think the brand of cat food matters much, try seeing which your cat prefers best. Once you figure that out, stick with that brand of food, because switching can cause issues.

Personally, I buy dry food only because I cant afford to feed all five of my cats (4 large males and a female) wet food. And then I occasionally give them a treat, but of course, they all like something different. *sigh*
References :
CAT FOOD SITUATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Ok i have asked millions of questions on what dry food i should buy for my cats, and came up with BB. Now i have found out that Dry food is Unhealthy, and i need to buy wet?! So i went to the store and bought a pack of Nine Lives cat food along with 2 friskies special diet> Urinary Tract Health canned food. I have 4 questions to ask. 1. Will my cats be healthier if put them on Wet food diet? 2. Is Nine Lives, or Friskies wet food Better than A bag of Dry Food? 3. Is it True that cats should not have too much Salmon or Tuna or they will get sick? 4. Which is the best food for my cats: Friskies Wet Food, Nine Lives Wet Food, Fancy Feast Wet Food, or Meow Mix Market Selects Wet Food? Please answer all my questions!
