how to get rid of pet hair on clothing without a lint brush?

Friday Mar 19, 2010

i have a very fluffy cat that lays all over my clothes and on the dark colors it realy shows. i have no lint brush……how do i get rid of this pesky hair?

Get a towel or cloth that is a dark colour so you don’t put light-coloured lint on your clothes, and get the towel/cloth slightly damp. Wipe or brush the clothing with the cloth. The hair should stick more to the damp cloth than to your dry clothes.

Note: sometimes a tumble in the dryer can help. Also put in a damp towel of a similar colour to the clothing. This also helps alot with wrinkles. This is how I "iron" most of my clothes.

How do I know if my pet food is made from the us or not….?

Friday Mar 19, 2010

"Given the current situation and until this crisis is resolved, the ASPCA is recommending pets be fed products containing US – sourced protein supplements only."

How do I know if my pet food is made from the us or not?

search for the company, brand online they should have a contact us page, then you can ask if ingredients are sourced in the US, not all companies will disclose or simply beat around the bush and say their ingredients are safe

Some websites will say where the ingredients are sourced

This site has managed to do this already and were able to obtain full disclosure from some companies
and some have refused to reveal their sources when asked so you may just want to use this site to pick your food if you don’t get the answer you want

DOG HEALTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Friday Mar 19, 2010

how do a avoid hip dysplasia i have a rottie

You can’t do anything to stop your dog getting it – it’s genetic. If you bought from a reputable breeder who does OFA or Penn hip scores, and only breeds from dogs with good hips, you don’t have much to worry about. If you buy from a backyard breeder, you have no way of knowing if your dog’s going to get it. The best thing you can do is never let the dog get overweight and if you’re concerned, a vet check-up.

How have CAT Scans improved health since its introduction in 1974?

Friday Mar 19, 2010

Any info on how CAT scans are better than x-rays and the benefits of the technology on society and health. biology work… thx

X-rays only tell what is going on in just one part of the body.
OK you hurt your leg you go to the doctor and he makes an x-ray of your leg to see if is broken. If it’s not broken, he doesn’t know what is wrong.

With an MRI you can see inside your whole body. But if it’s just your leg that hurts, they will only look at the leg and can see what is wrong with it.

Pet Health Insurance

Friday Mar 12, 2010

Like everything else these days the veterinary bills for your pet are also out of this world. And just as you need health insurance have you ever thought about getting your pet health insurance? It’s not as bizarre as it sounds and might help you in the long run. By getting your pet health insurance you can be certain that at the times when your pet needs it the most you can give him the proper medical care and attention.

Your pet is also an integral part of your family and you should treat it so. After a while a pet stops being just an animal and will become a bona fide family member, and you wouldn’t let a family member suffer through lack of proper insurance would you. So getting your pet health insurance isn’t really all that insane, and in the long run it could even save you money.

How so? Well with the continuing rising costs of just about everything as the years wear on, your health insurance could help to save you from having to spend large sums of money all at once. Think about it, what happens if your pet gets hurt? Perhaps he will break a leg, perhaps he’ll have rough-housed with the wrong animals. Then what happens, you need to give your pet good medical care and attention but it’s been a few days since your last pay packet, and you’ve taken out a mortgage on your house.

Do you tell the vet, hey I can afford only this much do the best that you can with that amount. You might be lucky and not get thrown out of the clinic, or you might get laughed at and your pet given a set of common vitamins to take because that will fix all his problems.

Or you could be smart about it and get your pet health insurance to cover for all these unlikely events, and cover all your bases. In the short term it won’t cost you more than a few extra dollars, and in the long run at least you can be assured of care being available immediately for your pet should the need arise.

And when your neighbor who only laughed disbelievingly at you when you told him about getting your pet health insurance, laughs even harder when you tell him that it actually came in handy, you can just smile. Because you know that his laugh is slightly strained, since his cat is even now recuperating from coming into contact with something that was harder and faster than it was, a car crossing at the intersection.

You got your pet health insurance and now your pet has the best of all medical facilities at his disposal, while your neighbor had to pay through his nose to get his cat’s bones back together and splinted. And don’t forget the cost of medications! Now who’s having the last laugh.

Pet Homeopathic Remedies Really Work

Friday Mar 12, 2010

Homeopathic pet treatments take the animal’s whole life into account. We look at our pet’s nutrition, exercise, emotional and physical well being in order to ensure that their lives are as long, healthy and happy as possible.

It is quite ironic that a lot of people are under the impression that pet homeopathic remedies are not safe for their pets. Since most of the ingredients in these natural remedies are completely organic, the chances of allergic reactions or other such side effects are lower.

Some people think it is not as effective as conventional medications. Some people think it is not safe and are worried about the side effects. Some people think it is too pricey. Some people, not surprisingly, have not heard of natural care for pets at all.

Pet Homeopathic Remedies

The difference between pharmaceutical drugs and homeopathic remedies is that the drugs treat the symptoms and homeopathy treats the cause of the symptoms.

Pet homeopathic remedies are now being recognized as some of the most effective treatments you can provide your pets. They are even more effective than those expensive treatments that are on the shelves of your local pet supply store or in your vet’s office in many cases.

These natural pet remedies are based on elements that are found in nature, which have historically been used to treat many ailments and illnesses. In fact, you very well may have these natural remedies right in your own kitchen at this very moment.

Benefits Of Homeopathy For Pets

Homeopathy is based on the principle of “like treats like” What this means is that a substance that cause symptoms of incontinence in your pet can actually be used to heal the problem when administered in minute doses. Homeopathic remedies can help pets with physical, mental, and emotional conditions :

1- Your pet will live longer,
2- Improved quality of life,
3- You will be treating the source of disease,
4- Your pet will heal faster,
5 – You will be building your pet’s immunity system,
6 – You will see a decline in chronic diseases,
7- You will save money.

When compared to the cost of traditional medicine and prescription drugs, pet homeopathic remedies are unbelievably less expensive. This is most likely due to the fact that they are not patented and marketed like traditional prescription drugs which increases the cost for the end user.

Conclusion

Use common sense and strike a balance between when you should use herbal treatments for pets at home and when you should go to the vet. A holistic approach to your pet’s well-being will bring health and happiness to your four legged friends. I do not argue that herbal medicine for pets can treat all health conditions. More severe conditions and illnesses need veterinary treatment. Always make sure that you tell your vet about any supplements or herbal treatments that your pet is taking.

Pet Store – Are You Able To Get Your Beloved Pets Need

Friday Mar 12, 2010

What happens when you run out of pet food in the middle of the day? The quickest way is to dash to the nearest pet store and replenish your pet supplies, as most online orders are not delivered immediately.

It requires a lot of energy and time to provide the best pet care to our animals. The pet store is the most convenient place to purchase all the pet supplies for your beloved pets, as they will usually have stocks on the products or services that are in high demand or most commonly bought by customers.

In a large city or big town, there should be dozens of pet stores situated near every residential area. You should look for a store that keeps their goods in a neat and hygienic manner. Perishable products such as food or anything with a shelf date should be sold within the validity date.

In addition, an up-market store should have the latest products that may help pet owners minimize on the amount of time spent on pet care.

Firstly, there is a need to groom your pet under a daily, bi-weekly or weekly schedule, as the activity is necessary to keep the animal’s coat healthy and shiny. Grooming is also essential, as it will also eradicate fleas and other parasites. The pet store should have hygiene and grooming products such as shampoos, skin lotions, bathing foams, deodorizers as well as a good range of grooming tools like nail clippers/files, rakes, combs and brushes. It should also have products on dental care and commonly used medications.

Other useful innovations that can be found in an up-market store are the automatic feeders and watering gadgets. These products give your pets access to food and water whenever there is a need, without the owner’s presence to attend to their meals. In addition to convenience, automated feeders build in the control of releasing food to animals with dietary needs. As animals usually tend to dehydrate more quickly, it is important to have water readily available to them.

There should also be some varieties of traveling aids such as specially designed harness, car seats and soft cages in the pet store. Pet owners can buy these aids when traveling with their pets in cars. If you choose to bring your pet out in a bicycle, there should be a range of baskets with different safety and security features available in the store.

Most of the pet store will usually stock up a variety of leads and collars for dogs or puppies. In addition to holding your pet’s registration tags, collars also give the animal a unique identity whereas the leads can be belt around your waist as you jog or stroll with your pet. You can buy a pocket pouch from the store to carry your pet if is a small animal like the Chihuahua. A muzzle will most likely be necessary if your pet is a large or dangerous dog, especially on occasions when humans need to be kept safe.

You should be able to find a good range of bedding materials in a variety of sizes and styles in the pet store. These will probably include kennels and mats for dogs, basket and cushion products for cats, cages for the birds and rodents as well as aquariums for fishes and tortoises. Rugs and blankets are also needed to keep your pets warm during cold weathers. These accommodations will ensure that your pets are able to rest comfortably.

In addition, you should be able to buy secure enclosures such as safety pet fences or cat fences at the store. These are soft wire mesh enclosures that can be placed in backyards or on balconies. Such blocking enclosures will keep your pet safe and prevent them from wandering off while having a stretch of exercises outdoors.

Finally yet importantly, your pet will enjoy the endless list of toys sold in the pet store. These may include balls, Frisbees and bones for dogs, scratching posts and tunnels for cats, mirrors for birds as well as racing tracks for rodents.

You may even find more pampering products, unusual toys, specialty clothing and other ‘hidden treasures’ when searching through the bigger pet store(s). A trip there will bring you and your pets plenty of joy and fun together.

You Never Have to Have Any Dog Health Problems

Friday Mar 12, 2010

While any dog owner recognizes that there are certain chores that he must leave strictly to the veterinarian, he wants, at the same time, to be given at least some idea of the role he can play in preventing Dog Health problems. Below are a few tips owners can use to avoid problems common problems.

Feeding Your Dog To Keep Optimum Health

The basic principle to be understood in the feeding of dogs is that, with only minor variations, they have the same nutritive requirements as man. A dog apparently has less need for starches and its digestive juices do not handle fatty foods well. Thus, the dog`s meat should always be quite lean, otherwise it will commonly cause a stomach upset with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea

Most animals will get along perfectly well on dry or canned commercial dog foods. Great strides have been made in the improvement of commercial dog foods in recent years. Their formulae are specially prepared by trained scientists to meet all of the dog`s needs and the federal government, on the basis of careful experiment to furnish normal maintenance diets, guarantees all nationally known brands. This means that the dog can live its entire life without eating anything but dog food.

While some companies will claim that their biscuits are a complete food and are often justified in their claim, most experts agree that the large majority of the biscuits that are manufactured serve best only as a supplementary food

Caring For Your Pets Eyes To Prevent Illness

In the general care of the eyes, the average dog owner can be advised to keep them clean. This can be done by washing them once a day with a lukewarm solution of boric acid (made by dissolving one teaspoonful of boric acid powder in a glass of hot water) or by the application of boric acid eye ointment direct to the eyeball.

The care of any significant eye diseases is strictly a job for the veterinarian. For safety`s sake, any injury to the eye should be considered an emergency and the veterinarian should be contacted immediately. Professional attention should be given even to very mild eye irritations that do not readily respond to simple treatment with washings of boric acid solution or applications of boric acid eye ointment.

How To Prevent Ear Ailments

Proper ear hygiene consists in keeping the hair of the ear clean and thoroughly combed out, free from parasites at all times and in maintaining the cleanliness of the inside of the ear. To clean the inside of the ear, dampen a piece of absorbent cotton with alcohol, squeeze out the excess moisture and clean out all the accumulated scurf as far down into the ear as the finger can conveniently reach.

Have no fear of doing damage to the inner ear, for the finger simply cannot penetrate that far. The cleaned surface should be dried with a piece of cotton. The next step is to put some boric acid powder on the back of a spoon handle or other convenient object and dump the powder into the ear. Then manipulate the ear so that the powder will penetrate as far into the ear canal as possible. After this is done to both ears, allow the animal to shake out the excess powder.

If this procedure is followed about two or three times a week, it is very unlikely that the dog ever will be affected by the common ear ailments.

Prevention Is The Best Cure

By taking steps to avoid dog health problems, you are less likely to have to suffer the consequences of an ill pet. If you are concerned about your pet or notice any strange symptoms, you should consult your veterinarian immediately. Regular check ups will also help detect potential illness or health problems early. Check ups should be given about every 6 months.
